Henry army
New site – new Henrys!
Our lovely customer, Octopus, finally moved into their new premises. We needed an army of new Henry Hoovers to help the Green Mop team do their hard work.
Green Mop summer picnic
Renata had the great idea that we should have a summer get together. On Sunday, we gathered together in Hove Park to enjoy beige food and frisbee fun! We were very lucky with the weather, and we had a great time.
Farewell card from Green Mopper Julian
We are very sad that our Julian is leaving us. He has been with us for a couple of years, and the time has come for him to move on. We will miss him.
Julian has left us a lovely card to say farewell. His kind words are truly appreciated and mean a lot to us all. He says in his note that he ‘always felt cared for’.
It is exactly what we aspire to be like. That our hard working cleaning team feel they are worthwhile, important, appreciated and cared for.
We have loads of great people who make Green Mop work so well. I am very happy that Julian noted how amazing both Olga and Renata are at their jobs. We are very lucky to have them..
The allergy-busting power of a clean workplace
Allergies can be a real nuisance, causing discomfort and productivity issues in the workplace. However, many people overlook the role that a clean and well-maintained environment can play in reducing allergy symptoms. By implementing good cleanliness practices, employers and employees alike can create a healthier and more productive workspace. Here, we explore how keeping a workplace clean can help reduce allergies and create a more pleasant working environment.
- Dust
Dust is a common trigger for allergies, and it tends to accumulate in various areas of the workplace, including desks, shelves, and ventilation systems. Regular dusting, vacuuming, and wiping down surfaces can significantly reduce the presence of dust mites, pollen, and other airborne allergens. We must clean workstations regularly, paying particular attention to areas where dust tends to settle, such as computer keyboards, monitors, and personal belongings.
- Clean air
Air quality plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy work environment. Poor ventilation and indoor air pollution can worsen allergy symptoms and lead to a range of health issues. To improve air quality, ensure that the workplace is properly ventilated, with fresh air circulating throughout the space. Regularly clean or replace air filters in air conditioning systems and use high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters to capture airborne allergens effectively.
- Mold and mildew
Mold and mildew thrive in damp and poorly ventilated areas, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and basements. These fungi can trigger allergies and respiratory problems among employees. Prevent mold growth by promptly addressing any water leaks, cleaning up spills, and maintaining proper humidity levels. Regularly inspect the workplace for signs of mold or mildew and address the issue promptly to ensure a clean and healthy environment.
- Cleaning practices
Establishing a comprehensive cleaning routine is vital for allergy prevention. We develop cleaning plans to clean work areas regularly, including wiping down surfaces, vacuuming or mopping floors, and cleaning common areas like break rooms or shared equipment, as well as hygiene areas like washrooms and kitchens. Using eco-friendly cleaning materials also minimises indoor pollutants too.
- Reduce clutter
Clutter not only affects productivity but also provides hiding places for dust, allergens, and pests. Encourage employees to keep their workstations organized and free of unnecessary items that can collect dust. Regularly declutter common areas, storage spaces, and supply cabinets to minimize the potential for allergen buildup.
- Greenery for Allergy Relief
While some individuals may be sensitive to certain plants, incorporating certain indoor plants can actually help purify the air and reduce allergens. Consider selecting plants like spider plants, peace lilies, or snake plants that have been found to filter common airborne pollutants. However, be cautious and consider the specific needs and sensitivities of your workforce before introducing plants into the workspace.
In conclusion;
Maintaining a clean workplace is not just about aesthetics; it has a direct impact on employee health and well-being. By implementing effective cleanliness practices, you can significantly reduce allergens, improve air quality, and create a more comfortable work environment for everyone. A clean workplace is not only an investment in productivity but also in the health and happiness of your employees.
Eco vacuum cleaners
At Green Mop, we are always aware of the impact our actions have on the environment. One area to consider is what vacuum cleaners we use. These appliances are not always as eco-friendly or ethical as we’d like. Here, we will explore some of the ways you can make your vacuum cleaning routine more environmentally friendly and ethical.
1. Choose a vacuum cleaner with a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter.
HEPA filters are designed to trap small particles of dust, pollen, and other allergens, making them an excellent choice for those with allergies or asthma. Not only do these filters improve the air quality, but they also reduce the amount of dust and dirt released back into the environment.
2. Look for a vacuum cleaner made from recycled materials.
Many vacuum cleaners are made from non-renewable resources such as plastic and metal. However, some companies are now producing vacuums made from recycled materials such as recycled plastic. These vacuum cleaners are just as effective as those made from new materials but have a much smaller environmental impact.
3. Choose a vacuum cleaner with a low power consumption.
Vacuum cleaners can use a lot of energy, so choosing one with a low power consumption can make a significant difference to our carbon footprint. Look for a vacuum cleaner with an A+ energy rating to ensure it uses as little energy as possible.
4. Opt for a cordless vacuum cleaner.
Cordless vacuum cleaners are becoming increasingly popular as they are more convenient and easier to use than corded models. They are also more environmentally friendly as they use rechargeable batteries, reducing the amount of disposable batteries that end up in landfill.
5. Support companies with ethical policies.
When choosing a vacuum cleaner, it is important to consider the company behind the product. Look for companies that have ethical policies such as fair trade and sustainable production. By supporting these companies, you can ensure that your purchase has a positive impact on people and the planet.
6. Vacuums that are built to last
It’s important that electrical machinery can have a long life. Something is reliable and that can be repaired when needed
We love a Numatic or Henry vacuum. They are simple and well built. And they are easy and cost effective to repair and replace parts. The company have good ethical and sustainable values too.

Eco-friendly office cleaning tips
There are several eco-friendly office cleaning practices that can help reduce your business’s impact on the environment.
Here are some tips for eco-friendly office cleaning:
- Use eco-friendly cleaning products
Traditional cleaning products can contain harmful chemicals that can be damaging to the environment. Switching to eco-friendly cleaning products can significantly reduce the amount of chemicals released into the environment. Look for cleaning products that are biodegradable, non-toxic and made from natural ingredients. Some cleaning products even come in concentrated forms, which reduces packaging waste and delivery costs. This can often work out more cost effective too. - Switch to microfibre cloths
Traditional cleaning cloths and paper towels generate a lot of waste, and the manufacturing process can be energy-intensive. Microfibre cloths, on the other hand, are reusable and can be washed and reused multiple times. They are also effective at capturing dust and dirt, which means that you will use fewer cleaning products overall. - Use energy-efficient cleaning equipment
Vacuum cleaners and other cleaning equipment can use a lot of energy. Switching to energy-efficient equipment can help reduce your business’s carbon footprint. Look for equipment that has an EU Eco Label or other eco-friendly certifications. - Reduce water usage
Water is a precious resource, and reducing water usage should be a priority for any eco-friendly business. Consider using low-flow toilets and taps in your office, and make sure that cleaning staff turn off taps when not in use. You can also look for cleaning products that require less water for use. - Switch to green cleaning services
If your business does not have the resources to carry out eco-friendly cleaning practices in-house, consider outsourcing your cleaning to a green cleaning service. These services use eco-friendly products and practices to reduce the environmental impact of office cleaning.
Adopting eco-friendly office cleaning practices can help your business to be more sustainable. Switching to eco-friendly products, using energy-efficient equipment, reducing water usage, and outsourcing to green cleaning services are all effective ways to make your office cleaning more environmentally friendly.

Merry Christmas to all our staff and customers
We wish all our staff and customers a happy and peaceful Christmas. Many of our team will continue to clean through the festive holiday season, but our office will be closed from 4pm on Friday 23 December until Tuesday 3 January.
This year’s Christmas illustration is by Olga’s daughter, Alexandra. We think it’s just amazing! Alexandra is such a talented young artist, and still only 13. She also did a Christmas card design for her school, and was one of only four students to have their design printed.
