Zero-waste cleaning products
We’re really excited to announce that we’ve trialed new cleaning products from our supplier which mean no plastic waste! We’ll be implementing their use across all our customer sites.
The products come in little soluble sachets which we pop in a spray bottle or bucket and leave for a few seconds to dissolve. And that’s it! Each sachet is the exact dosage required, so we don’t use too much. And the products work just as well as the non-toxic cleaning liquids we’ve been using until now.
The sachets are packaged in cardboard boxed which we can easily recycle. And they’re small which means a further benefit of being able to store more. This means fewer deliveries from the supplier and to all our customer sites.
Correct dosage, no plastic waste, non-toxic product – we love them!
We’ve moved!
After five years in our little dungeon, we’re on the move! Our new office is just along the road, on the corner of Church Road and Sackville Road.
The new address is 201A Church Road, Hove, BN3 2AH
Reasons to choose Green Mop
I know there’s lots of choice when it comes to looking for an office cleaning company. Anyone can do it – stick a Henry hoover in the back of a Ford Fiesta and off you go! But here’s why Green Mop is a good choice:
- Reliable – 600 hours of cleaning per week, with only one missed shift in the last year.
- Communication – emails answered within an hour during business hours.
- Responsive – actions are taken swiftly and communicated back so our customers are informed at all times.
- Available – we have a call answering service during business hours which means you never get voicemail – you’ll always speak to a person who will pass on your message.
- Local – our office is in Hove. All our staff live in Brighton and Hove. From cleaners, to management to owner. All live and work here.
- Responsible – not only are we the original green cleaning company, we’re also good employers, treating all fairly and kindly.
- Professional – insurances, accreditations, training, auditing, technology, policies, processes and systems.
The ways we help busy office managers
We all know that the Office Manager is one of the most important people in a busy office environment. They keep everything running smoothly so that all the other staff can get on with their jobs. The Office Manager’s role is a varied one, and they’re the people we work with most.
We try to take as much off the Office Manager’s desk as possible so that they can concentrate on the other important aspects of their job. It sounds simple, but having a reliable cleaning service that communicates well is an important part of a well run office.
Often, we take over from other cleaning companies as it ends up being a daily task checking up on the work having been done, chasing them for a response about a query, complaining about the same issues time and again.
We don’t claim to be perfect, sometimes we do get complaints. But we act on them and get things sorted swiftly and professionally. Meaning busy Office Managers can get on with other things.
Along with reliable office and carpet cleaning, Green Mop also offers additional services to keep all facilities services with one responsible company. We work with trusted supply partners and can offer a laundry service, washroom & sanitary services, grounds maintenance, window cleaning, PAT testing, pest control.
A quick call to Green Mop, and we help our customers sort out all sorts of issues. And Office Managers can get on with keeping their office running smoothly!
Finalists! Gatwick Diamond Business Award for Responsible Business of the Year
We’re absolutely thrilled to be finalists for the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards for Responsible Business of the Year.
The prestigious awards ceremony takes place on 21 March at the Effingham Park Hotel near Gatwick.
It means so much to a business like ours to be considered for such an award. Our business is not a glamorous one, and there’s rarely much appreciation for the largely unseen work that our Green Moppers do. The work they do is important and necessary and it’s only noticed if not done properly. So to be able to share this sort of news with them is fantastic.
Wish us luck!
Cleaning as therapy
The popularity of Instagram influencer and cleaning guru Mrs Hinch, and organisation expert Marie Kondo’s Netflix show are making cleaning and tidying hot topics on social media.
Sophie Hinchcliffe, aka Mrs Hinch, posts videos and cleaning tips for her many Instagram followers. She has said that her cleaning routines helped with her anxiety. Cleaning routines follow a process from start to finish, with a positive end result. The physical and the ritualistic nature of completing a task is a mindful experience, as well as a form of exercise. Concentrating on the task at hand, and achieving a gratifying outcome can be soothing, relaxing and satisfying. It’s good for the mind and body.
The KonMari Method is a tidying technique coined by Marie Kondo. Her best selling books and Netflix show focus on the premise of decluttering our homes by determining which of your possessions don’t “spark joy”.
As the world around us seems chaotic and out of control, cleaning and tidying is something we can bring order to. The social media buzz is making us stop seeing it as a chore that needs to be done, but rather a positive activity.
Merry Christmas!
Look at the lovely Christmas cards Syd has designed for us! They’ve gone out to customers this week.
A lot of staff are off over Christmas, having a well earned break. But there will still be Green Moppers working throughout the holiday period.
The office will be closed between Christmas and New Year as usual.
Have a wonderful Christmas everyone.

Welcoming and respectful employer
We had a cleaner resign this week. It’s always sad when part of our team moves on, but in this case we were heartened to read his resignation letter. He’s transgender, and it was kind of him to comment on how he valued his experience of working with Green Mop. I asked him if I could share his kind letter in a blog post in order to reassure any other trans people who might be seeking employment. He said I could. His letter included this paragraph:
“I have really enjoyed my time at Green Mop and have valued working with such welcoming and hard-working people. I would like to add that I have felt that Green Mop has offered me a safe and supportive working environment as a transgender person and would like to thank you for that. It has given me a lot of hope for future employment situations.”
He also said he’d like to add the following:
“At Green Mop I didn’t have to worry about being openly trans. In my interview, my supervisor asked for my pronouns and said if I experienced any prejudice to contact her. When showing my ID, she politely asked if I would prefer they ignore my deadname and acknowledged that changing my name is a difficult process. If anyone misgendered me, my supervisor would correct them. My employers made every effort to ensure the people I was working with were aware of my pronouns. It has given me a lot of hope for future employment knowing there are employers who respect my identity.”
I’d like to thank him for taking the time to write about our lovely team, and for helping any future trans job applicants who might be anxious about coming to meet us for the first time. We’re proud to be a welcoming and inclusive place to work for all.
Any people seeking employment with a respectful and supportive employer can complete our application form here.
Helping at the local foodbank
Earlier this year, I started volunteering once or twice a month at the Hangleton Foodbank. They do a great job helping families and individuals in need in the Hangleton, West Blatchington and Hove. We’ve now started collecting donations at our offices in Selbourne Road in Hove. Staff, friends and customers have donated food items. Green Mop donates loo rolls and washing powder too. The picture shows the most recent donation. It doesn’t have to be much as all is appreciated.
So if you want to drop any donations of food or toiletries for our local foodbank, please feel free to drop by our offices!
