Finalist! Natwest Venus Awards – Lifetime Achievement
I am very proud and grateful to have reached the list of Finalists for the NatWest Venus Awards for Brighton & Sussex in the Lifetime Achievement category. These awards are for women in business. There are some wonderful business people on the list of finalists, so I am looking forward to the ceremony at The Grand Hotel in October.
News: We won! Green Business of the Year – Gatwick Diamond Awards
We are absolutely thrilled to have won another award!
Green Mop have been awarded the Green Business of the Year at the prestigious Gatwick Diamond Business Awards 2013.
The event is one of the biggest in the region, with winners announced by TV’s Alexander Armstrong in front of a crowd of 500 business people from the Gatwick Diamond area.
The Green Business of the Year Award was sponsored by Crawley Borough Council. Brett Hagen and Kay Wagland from The Council’s Green Business Programme came the Green Mop’s Hove office to interview Racheal as part of the judging process.
Brett said “The winning business has embraced sustainability, in its full sense, to underpin its entire operations, rather than just adding on a ‘green’ element. This has made them effective and competitive as well as green, ethical and enthusiastic. So, using low cost, ecologically benign and reused materials, structuring the organisation and ICT to minimise travel, minimising office waste and energy, supporting and influencing clients and providing good pay and conditions for their workforce in a notorious sector, sets them head and shoulders above the field. It is the basis for their success, evidenced by their new programme of franchise expansion.”
Racheal and Sue collected the award and are both totally thrilled at the achievement. Click here to see a Video of the awards night
News: FINALISTS! Sussex Business Awards 2012
We are delighted to be shortlisted again for this year’s Sussex Business Awards.
The winners are announced at a gala dinner ceremony at South Lodge Hotel on 6 December.
Wish us luck!
News: Hove Business Association Awards – WINNERS!
YES!!! We got a trophy and a certificate for being the Best Eco Business at the Hove Business Association Awards. The bash took place at the cricket club, and was great fun. I like the HBA event as it is informal, straight to the point, and great fun. Not only did it reward some of the many businesses based in Hove, it also had ‘Hove Hero’ awards for unsung heroes in our area such as the local postman, the central Hove street cleaning team. I think that is a lovely idea and creates a real sense of community and let them know we appreciate their hard work and dedication.
News: Winners! East Sussex Women in Business Award
We are delighted to announce that we won The East Sussex Women in Business Award for Green Business. Racheal and her sister Lin attended a gala dinner at the magnificent Cavendish Hotel in Eastbourne, with dignitaries and wonderful local business women.
Blog: Brighton & Hove Business Awards – A great night out!
We had a wonderful time at The Grand Hotel in Brighton where The 2011 Sussex Business Awards and Brighton & Hove Business Awards were presented during an evening of entertainment, food and a fair amount of wine. It was a black tie do, so all local business bods were there in their pomp. What a sight to behold!
And Green Mop were very lucky to have been shortlisted for a BAHBA this year. For the Responsible Business Award. Also on the shortlist were Brighton and Hove’s legendary Infinity Foods, a co-operative that has been doing business responsibly in our city and beyond for 40 years. Thanks to the BAHBAs organisers (Midnight Communications), I got to spend a freezing afternoon on the pier with Dexter from Infinity Foods bouncing up and down on a trampolene whilst the lovely chaps from Fatsand Productions filmed us. The other shortlister didn’t come to the filming, but Dexter and I and the Fatsand team had great (and exhausting) fun.
I thought it would be Dexter and Infinity Foods that would win the award, in the year that they celebrate their 40th birthday, a magnificent achievement. But, I was wrong, the other shortlister, and the winner, was Jury’s Inn. So huge congratulations to them.
Blog: Green Mop wins Chamber of Commerce star award
We are very proud to have won a Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce Star Award at last week’s AGM and dinner. Having been a member of the Chamber for less than a year, I was chuffed to have even been nominated and was surprised to win. It was even better that the Star Awards are voted for by fellow Chamber members. So to all those who kindly took the time to vote Green Mop; thank you very, very much.
However, I did have to do an acceptance speech! Being confident that I wouldn’t win, I made all sorts of ridiculous promises to show my appreciation through the medium of dance. Specifically a moonwalk. I was showing off, frankly. When Green Mop’s name was read out, my joy and glee were quickly replaced with fear and panic as I noticed my Chamber pals looking at me expectantly awaiting my moonwalk performance. Needless to say, I bottled out. I had no idea what to say, and luckily the microphone stand was set for normal sized people, so I couldn’t reach it! Oh how they all laughed as I tried to reach on tip toes.
So, what I should have said was a few heart felt thank yous; to all the members of the Chamber of Commerce who make it a fun, informative, friendly, vibrant gang to be a part of, to all the staff and volunteers who work so hard to make it work, to all the businesses we’ve worked with as a result of our membership, and to all the new friends I’ve made along the way. That’s what I should have said!

Blog: Sussex Business Awards 2010
Much disappointment amongst the whole Green Mop team that we didn’t win a Sussex Business Award. We were finalists for the Health, Work and Wellbeing award, which I felt we had a good chance of winning as we help LOADS of workplaces to be healthier and safer by not filling the air they breathe with toxins galore. But, alas, it was a big company that won. Well done to Domestic and General. I’ll be giving them a call to see if they want to use a green cleaning company to improve the health of their workers!
We had a fabulous time at the Awards Bash though. It was dreadful, snowy, freezing weather, so many could not get to The Grand. But I am so pleased the organisers managed to still get the show on the road. They even had to compere it themselves as Nicholas Owen couldn’t get there. Green Mop did its bit by offering to take along business people to fill the empty places! So, the two directors of Bainbridge Lewis Accountants and Alice Reeves from the Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce put on their glad rags and joined us for the fun.
And we did have fun. You can see some pictures on our Facebook page by clicking here
A big thank you to Caraline from Midnight and her team for organising the event, the judges for getting us on the shortlist and the all important sponsors. Huge thanks to all the Green Moppers who work so hard to make these sort of things possible for our business. And thanks to Table 22 for a great night out!

Green Mop win the Argus Eco Awards
Oh my oh my. We are SO proud to have won the Argus Eco Award for Green Business.
So Ceri, Sharon and I all went to our first ever award do. I had to dig out my old interview suit from my IT days (shiny elbows, ill fitting trousers, and ripped lining in the jacket), Ceri had to wear high heels (she was walking like she’s been riding a horse for 4 days), and Sharon was sporting her best dangly earrings (bling!). We were wined and we wered dined (Barefoot Wines and Due South were 2 of the sponsors!).
Then the awards ceremony started. Our category was 2nd to last, so my nerves were frazzled. I got all psyched up as our category loomed, then the compere said “let’s take a break for the raffle”! Jeeeeeepers..
I’d bought some raffle tickets, and foolishly agreed that Sharon, Ceri and I would share any prizes (although Sharon and I decided that if we won the surfing lesson, Ceri could have that all to herself!). There was huge excitement when we won the £250 shopping spree at Churchill Square… that we’re going to share (sulk)!
Then, back to the awards.. We were up against Nigel’s Eco Store and the Cycling Gardener, both lovely and deserving local Green Businesses. The sponsor of the award was Neilson Active Holidays , and their big cheese read out that we had won.
I can’t tell you how pleased I was! There was a big cheer (even louder than when we won the shopping spree!). Sharon and Ceri had decided to make as much noise as possible (the free wine helped!).
And so we are now Green Mop – the Award Winning green cleaning company!
The Green Moppers have worked so very hard in the last 18 months. Ceri and Sharon in particular have helped so much to make us a success. Green Mop struck lucky when those 2 agreed to be the core of the team. All the girls and boys, both past and present, that have pulled on the Green Mop t-shirt and got stuck in making homes and workplaces clean and fresh have all contributed to the great reputation we have earned. Gen, Alice, Sophie, Jo, Joe, Johnny Sparkles, Hettie, Maria, Apphia, a big thanks.
And our lovely customers. Thank you to those that took the time to nominate us in the first place! And thanks for choosing us to be your cleaners and helping our small green and ethical business to thrive in Brighton and Hove.
Thanks also to the Argus and the sponsors for putting on such a great do. We did have fun!
One last thanks and then I’ll shut up! Thanks to my friends and family for putting up with all the Green Mop trials and tribulations. Josie has to put up with most of it! But Josie and Teen are always there with advice and help and ideas. My family are so proud and supportive and encouraging.
Anyway, back to reality… there’s cleaning that needs doing, so better get on..
